| October 29, 2009 Study: Casino resorts bring 'good jobs'
|
(NECN) - The heated discussion over casino gambling in Massachusetts is certainly a hot topic on Beacon Hill.
As state lawmakers hold public hearings on a wide array of gambling proposals, Dr. Susan Moyer, director of UMass Boston's Labor Resource Center, spoke with NECN on the subject.
She is an economic observer who has studied whether a resort-style casino would bring so-called "good jobs" to the state.
"The workers in the casino hotels make two times the minimum wage and a full 30-percent more than non-gaming workers in that same category (those who did not complete a college education)," Dr. Moyer said, noting that casino hotel employees without a completed college education were also more likely to have health care coverage.
