(NECN: Chantilly, VA) - President Bush says the economic meltdown has brought tough times for many Americans, but he has pledged that "we're going to come through this."
Bush spoke at an office supply company in the Washington suburb of Chantilly, Va., after talks earlier in the day with European leaders. Bush pressed allies to coordinate their efforts to ease the financial crisis spreading around the globe.
"I am confident in the long term for this country. I'm confident that the steps we've taken are bold and necessary," said Bush. "We can do it."
"I believe the steps we've taken will free up credit," said Bush. "Have faith that this economy will recover over time."
"I understand America's frustrations, better than you can possibly know," said Bush. "I'm recognizing reality that this is a serious economic situation that requires government action."
