| March 6, 2008 Conn. lawmakers consider gas discount proposals

(NECN: Hartford, Conn.) - Despite crude oil selling for over $100 a barrel, or maybe because of that, lawmakers in Connecticut could lower gasoline prices there. They are looking at several proposals that would drop the price by as much as 20 cents a gallon.
The Legislature has at least two bills on its plate. One would allow gas stations to offer a discount to drivers who pay with cash instead of credit. The other would change the way the state collects its gas tax. Right now, the state tax is 7.5%, which amounts to about 22 cents a gallon. A second bill would cap the tax at 12 cents a gallon.
Crude oil is hovering around $105 a barrel after OPEC announced it would not increase production despite encouragement to do so by the United States.
NECN's Brian Burnell has the story from Hartford, Connecticut.
