(NECN) - Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke says Congress needs to take steps to end the home foreclosure crisis.
Speaking Monday night at Columbia University, Bernanke warned that rising late mortgage payments and continued foreclosures pose dangers to the nation's economy.
Bernanke wants congress to give the Federal Housing administration more flexibility to help borrowers who could lose their homes.
Nearly 1.5 million US homes entered into foreclosure last year. Bernanke says that will likely increase this year.
