| November 7, 2008 Frustration felt nationwide as unemployment grows
|
(NECN: Brian Burnell, Hartford, Conn.) - The nation's unemployment rate his a 14-year high in October, as nearly 250,000 jobs were cut. Even as those figures were released, General Motors and Ford were announcing big losses in the last quarter.
With the latest losses at two of the big three auto makers, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect Michigan to have the highest unemployment rate in the nation, but a New England state has an even higher jobless rate.
John Tirinzonie of the Connecticut Labor Department says the latest numbers have not shocked him.
Connecticut's unemployment rate stands at 6.1%.
No matter where you are, being out of work is tough and finding a job is even harder.
Inara Ramin was let go from a grocery store a year ago. He's been looking ever since. He has an education and experience as a corrections officer, but it just doesn't seem to matter in this job market. His money is dwindling and he says it is tough being told, "sorry" or nothing at all.
Tirinzonie says people are likely to stay frustrated for at least another year.
