(NECN) - Massachusetts health authorities want the state's hospitals and nursing homes to think green. Under new guidelines-- which could be adopted as early as this fall-- any healthcare facility looking to renovate or expand would have to comply with practical green building standards.
If approved this would make the Bay State the first to tie environmentally friendly construction with healthcare expansion.
Several area hospitals have already voluntarily adopted their standards including Brigham and Women's hospital .
It's new 380 million dollar addition was built to green construction standards.
Alfred Scaramelli, President of H2O applied technologies, helped make that happen, and discusses the process, as well as the benefits.
