(Latoyia Edwards, NECN) - Today, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's chairman is sending a letter to Governor Deval Patrick and legislative leaders asking them to start negotations on a billion dollar casino in the town of Middleborough.

The proposed deal would allow Massachusetts to share some of the casino revenues.

The state does not have to negotiate until the federal government approves the Tribe's application to place the casino land in trust.
