(Kristen Caira, NECN) - Massachusetts is one step closer to holding another sales tax holiday. On Tuesday the House approved a plan to suspend the state's five percent sales tax for two days in August.
Jewelery, a plasma T.V. or a new laptop. Items many consumers are trying to stay away from in these tough economic times. But now the Massachusetts House is giving the green light on spending more green. For the 6th year, it's approved a tax free weekend on for August 16th and 17th.
The measure is expected to pass in the Senate and be signed by the Governor. The tax free spree suspends the 5% sales tax on most items up to $2,500. It will cost the state about 16 million dollars in lost revenues.
A few items that don't qualify for the tax break include cars, boats, telecommunications services and sorry... gas. Still we found some shoppers ready to buy.
