Wonderland Greyhound Park faces foreclosure

(Brad Puffer, NECN: Revere, MA) - Wonderland greyhound park is being threatened with foreclosure and losing its liquor license if it doesn't pay almost $800,000 in back taxes, now the largest tax delinquent in the city of Revere.

Councilor: The episode should not have gone on

City council president George Collela says he is upset that licenses for the park were renewed despite the back taxes.

They were oblige to pay their taxes precedent to receiving any permits or licenses being issued and they haven't done it and like other taxpayers I don't think there should be any special treatment

"Given the value of that land probably well in excess of 15 million I don't think they are going to it to the city for less than a million dollars I expect this going to be cleared up"

By Thursday afternoon, wonderland's president sent a statement saying "we take full responsibility and have taken immediate action to arrange a payment plan to settle the arrears. We have spoken with mayor Ambrosino and expressed our deep regrets for any inconvenience we have caused the city of revere. "

"Wonderland has been here since the 1930's but come November Massachusetts will decide whether to ban greyhound racing, if that's approved Wonderland could become history."

"Personally I don't want it to pass because it would put a lot of people out of work who live in my city"

Still, mayor Tom Ambrosino admits even if greyhound racing continues, the future

of wonderland is still in questions.
