Apple opens superstore in downtown Boston
(NECN) – Computer giant, Apple, will open the doors to a new superstore in downtown Boston on Thursday. Will it ultimately crush smaller competition in the area?
NECN’s Josh McElveen takes a look.
Script:
Smaller tech stores will have to adjust to a three-story, 20,000 square foot superstore that carries everything in Apple’s arsenal. From the razor thin notebooks, to the mega hit iPhone, to the latest shrinking iPods, the Back Bay store has everything. It also has a Genius Bar, in the event there is a problem with your technology.
The store will be open from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Apple envisions it as a sort of meeting place hence, the candy décor complete with a spiral stair case that wraps around a glass tank. Yet, the company insists that what will make the store work are the 165 employees.
Initially, some were concerned that the store’s sleek design would clash with the older architecture in the area, but ultimately, a compromise was reached.
Now, even the competition around the corner is hopeful the store will be an anchor that draws in more business for everyone.
Not that surrounding businesses have much choice. Because, of all the Apple exclusive outlets in the world, Back Bay’s is now the biggest.
