(NECN: Latoyia Edwards, Boston, Mass.) - A 12-year-old boy is the first Massachusetts resident to die from complications of the flu this year. Hunter Pope died Sunday at the hospital. Hunter's father, Ken Pope, says his son appeared fine on Friday when he came home from school at Boston Latin Academy, but began vomiting on Saturday night. Sunday, Hunter was taken to the hospital, where his condition worsened. "Hunter is quite the social creature...he made himself a T-shirt that says "Free Hugs"...that will be the shirt he will be buried in," said Ken Pope. Ken Pope says his son did have a permission slip to get the flu shot at school, but he is not even sure if the vaccination would have helped in this case. Ken says his son weighed just 60 pounds, but had no pre-existing health conditions.
