| August 27, 2008 Back to school. What's for lunch?
|
(NECN) - As kids get ready to head back to school, parents will again begin the daily task of packing brown bag lunches. Too often though, unhealthy snacks make their way into the meal instead of nutritious items.
Dr. Carine Lenders, the Medical Director of the Children's Nutrition Program at Boston Medical Center, joins NECN for a discussion.
Dr. Lenders says that most of the time it is best to pack your child's lunch, because then you know for sure what your child will be eating.
Some of the good options to put in lunches are:
- 2 slices of wheat bread
- lean ham or turkey breast
- tomato/lettuce/low-fat mayonnaise
- apple or yogurt
- low-fat/no-sugar chocolate milk
