(NECN: Ally Donnelly, Medway, Mass.) - The next time you get an ear infection or need a vaccination, you may be able to visit your local pharmacy instead of your doctor's office. CVS opened its first "Minute Clinic" in Massachusetts today.
The Massachusetts Medical Society worries that some patients will be misdiagnosed.
The clinics are for patients with minor ailments. Everything from allergies to bladder infections to ear infections. Nurse practitioners will see the patients.
The cost per visit ranges from $59 to $110, plus the cost of lab fees. Health insurance providers Harvard Pilgrim and Tufts have already signed off on the clinics. Blue Cross Blue Shield is close to signing off, as well.
Massachusetts hopes to have 28 "Minute Clinics" open in the state by the end of the year, including this first one in Medway.
The state of Connecticut currently has 13 open.
