(NECN/CTV) - The legendary singer Stevie Wonder, 59, speaks out after the death of Michael Jackson.
Wonder made the comments at a news conference before a massive outdoor concert Tuesday to kick off Montreal's 30th annual international jazz festival.
Verbatim:
"As you know this is a very emotional time for me. As you can imagine.
Someone very, very special to the world, to his family and to his friends,
we've lost. Michael Jackson. And, um, as you probably know I've been very
quiet about all this because I've been, I don't say listening to, but
watching television all over, watching people say this and say that, various
spin doctors talk about this and talk about that.
I just want to say to the fans and those of the world, please don't get
confused with what's the most important thing. The most important thing is
the music and the legacy he's left behind for us to celebrate the songs that
we have sang and danced to. Celebrated, cried to and don't get hung up in
the negativity of what's is being said by people who have nothing to do with
understanding, whatever.
At the end of the day none of those things that people will say can bring
him back alive. that will never happen, but what can keep him alive is us
celebrating his music and his legacy as we're celebrating today the legacy
