(NECN: Chicago) - Illinois Senator Roland Burris will not run for a full term next year.

Burris was appointed by ousted Governor Rod Blagojevich to fill the Senate seat vacated by President Obama.

Burris made the announcement in Chicago Friday. He said, "The reality of being in the United States Senate today requires not only a significant time commitment to performing the job, but an almost equal commitment to raising funds to run competitively for the office."

Burris said when making his decision, he was called to choose between spending his time raising funds, or spending time raising issues for Illinois.
