August 3, 2008 12-year-old fatally shoots mother in Arizona

DOUGLAS, Ariz. (AP) - In Arizona, a 34-year-old woman has been shot to death. The suspect: Her 12-year-old son.

Authorities say the boy is facing a murder charge after allegedly shooting his mother multiple times after an argument.

Deputies were called to a home just outside the Douglas city limits late Friday afternoon and found 34-year-old Sara Madrid shot multiple times.

Deputies began first aid and Madrid was taken to a hospital in Douglas, where she died.

The boy was booked into the county juvenile detention center on a first-degree murder charge.

Authorities say the boy was at home with his mother, stepfather and a sibling when an argument broke out. The parents left, and when they returned, authorities say the boy opened fire on his mother with a handgun.

No one else was hurt.
