Adam Herrman vanished from his adoptive parents mobile home in Towanda, back 1999.
He was 11 years old. The town in Butler County is about 30 miles northeast of Wichita.
Saturday, Butler County detectives, canine units and a forensic anthropologist combed through an area along the banks of the Whitewater River looking for clues.
Police say the boy's adoptive sister reported he was missing.
The case is considered a death investigation.
