| July 5, 2009 Disney World monorail crash kills driver

(NECN/WFTV: Orlando, Florida) - Lawrence Owens and his family were ready to board a monorail at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, when they witnessed a horrific crash.
"The train never stopped. It plowed right into the front of the train," Owens said.
Two monorail trains crashed early Sunday, killing one train's operator, emergency officials said. The operator, 21-year-old Austin Wuennenberg, died at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 2 a.m.
The other train operator was not injured, but was taken to the hospital, as he was emotionally shaken.
Six people on both trains were checked over.
"We were kind of shook up after that," Owens said.
WFTV obtained exclusive video of the crash site, which shows the front of one of the trains involved, but not the wreckage.
Workers put up a black curtain to conceal the damage and spent all morning looking over and doing work to the monorail. The entire system was shut down after the crash.
Visitors were bused between Epcot Center and Magic Kingdom -- two parks normally linked by the monorail.
"Just thank God we wasn't on that train," Owens said. "I pray for the driver's family."
WFTV Ryan Hughes reports.
