| October 7, 2008 "Blue Roof" program expanded on Galveston Island
|
(NECN/ABC) - In nearly every neighborhood you drive through in the Houston Texas area, you see the blue tarps covering damaged roofs.
Monday for the first time, the US Army Corps of Engineers is expanding it's "blue roof" tarp program to Galveston Island where homeowners were getting temporary repairs to their homes.
One of the reasons the first blue roof went up Monday instead of sooner was because the homeowners weren't allowed on Galveston Island for days after Hurricane Ike.
The US Army Corps of Engineers expects more islanders to file before next Monday's deadline.
KTRK News reporter Adela Uchida has more on the story.
