| June 16, 2008 California to allow same sex couples to marry
|
(NECN) - Gay marriages will become legal at 5:01 PM Monday afternoon in California.
California will join Massachusetts as the only states to allow same sex couples to marry.
In 2004, a California court rule the legal definition of a marriage was between a man and a woman, but last month, the state supreme court overturned that ban.
But it's not over yet. In November there's a chance California voters may approve a ballot initiative nullifying that decision.
Many county clerks plan to stay after hours to accommodate couples ready to say "I do."
