Cash strapped? Try online carpooling

(NECN/ABC) - There's nothing to smile about at the pump these days. In some parts of the country, gas is at $4.00 a gallon. So, desperate times call for desperate transportation alternatives. Some pump weary Wisconsinites are posting personal ads on CraigsList and other Web sites to carpool.

It's definitely a sign of the times -- fight record gas prices with an online ad.

Police have some safety tips for people thinking about finding a carpooler online. Their advice is straight forward.

Meet first in a safe, public place. Tell your friends what you're doing and ask for references.

WKOW reporter Carl Agnelly has the story from Madison, Wisconsin.
