Flood watches posted in Idaho

(NECN/ABC) - In anticipation of rising floodwaters, sheriff's deputies in Shoshone County, Idaho have been going door-to-door to inform people that they might be in harm's way.

"Right now we are headed up the Coeur d'Alene River."

Lieutenant Jeremy Graves with the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office Drives upstream.

"We do expect some high water, to the extent I don't know,"

"We are going around today and notifying everybody up here about the potential bad spots of the river. "

With several feet of snow still in the mountains and high temperatures predicted this weekend the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office says its possible this year could rival the major flood of 1996.

"We're a little concerned. Just so much depends upon weather,"

In 1996 when the river swallowed roads Peak cooked more than 100 free meals for stranded neighbors.

Lt Graves warns neighbors to avoid driving or walking through standing water and keeping supplies handy in case they are stranded in their homes.

KXLY reporter Annie Bishop has more.
