(NECN/WFTV) - Formal charges have been filed against the 22-year-old mother of a missing Florida girl. Casey Anthony is formally charged with child neglect and filing a false statement. She has not been charged in two-year-old Caylee Anthony's disappearance.
Police have held her on $500,000 bail on those same charges since last month.
Casey's attorney, Jose Baez, says he has warned his client that anything she says to her parents could be used against her.
"I have expressed to my client, and clearly laid out that every communication she has with her family could be used against her," said Baez.
Baez said this in response to questions about Casey's recent conversations with her family inside the jail. He went on to say he's advised Casey to write down her thoughts, for them to discuss, but in regards to a coded letter...
"There is no letter," said Baez.
Baez's office continues to say there is no immunity offer for Casey.
Police say the mother lied to them and didn't report her daughter missing for more than a month.
Her attorney has denied the charges and says the mother believes Caylee is still alive.
