(NECN/ABC) - On Thursday morning in California, it was illegal for two people of the same sex to get married. By the evening, it was legal.
The California Supreme Court on Thursday overturned a law forbidding same-sex marriage-- a big victory for gay liberation.
In a 4-3 decision, the court overturned the state's ban on same-sex marriage, saying it violates "the fundamental consitutional right to form a family relationship."
The ruling paves the way for California to become the second state where gay and lesbian couples can marry.
ABC's Carla Wohl has more on this story.
