| July 3, 2008 Girl loses finger after game of tug of war
|
(NECN/KSTP) - Her room -- now filled with teddy bears and well wishes. But, last week Alyssa Martin, an avid bmx bike racer, wasn't smiling. It was at a charity bike race.
A harmless game of tug of war.
A game that sent Alyssa to north memorial hospital for re-attachment surgery.
Dad --- The rope broke and the next thing you know she was standing next to me, holding her hand, saying I hurt my hand.
It was first reported that Alyssa was in the middle of the pack during tug
Of war-with a rope tied around her fingers-but her family tells a different
Story.
Alyssa "The rope broke and I looked at my fingers and they were gone".
"She was the only one standing when the rope broke so we are maybe thinking
it maybe it did and we don't know."
Within hours Alyssa was at north memorial where a world renowned re-attachment surgeon would try to piece together Allysa's left hand,
Mom---It is amazing isn't it sweetheart.
THE PROGNOSIS FOR HER FINGERS??
Dad---We went from people preparing us for four fingers being gone to the doctor saying we had all four-it was a really big thing for us.
Very thankful she is doing as well as she is doing.
