(NECN: Camp Springs, MD) - A sinkhole about 20 to 30 feet wide and 10 feet deep led to the evacuation of three homes in Camp Springs, Maryland.
The sinkhole is thought to have been caused by heavy rain and strong winds that battered the mid-Atlantic region Monday, knocking down power lines, closing roads and prompting evacuations in flooded communities.
The National Weather Service extended a flood warning for some areas of the Northeast into the afternoon.
The National Weather Service estimates up to four inches of rain fell across the region.
