Mormon teens attacked; parents speak out

(NECN/ABC) - The parents of two teens beaten in a park are speaking out for the first time. The boys were attacked after revealing they were Mormon.

One set of parents say their son was brutally beaten -- his face smashed against the gravel, leaving imprints on his forehead. His older sister saw the whole thing.

Police say the two Mesquite High School football players responsible started the fight after some younger kids asked the victims if they were Mormon. Both said yes.

The father of the second victim says his son's nose was broken and his cheekbone has a fracture and various lacerations to his face.

KNXV reporter Christina Boomer has more from Gilbert, Arizona.
