(NECN/ABC) - Huntington, Virginia residents got a wake-up call in the middle of the night when Fairfax County emergency crews sloshed through knee-deep water, knocking on doors and encouraging neighbors to evacuate. Many have seen the quickly-rising water surge through their homes before.
Across Northern Virginia, drivers tried to keep their cars from hydroplaning.
A steady downpour has some of the area under flood warning, a wider section will remain under a flood watch into this afternoon.
Rainfall could total as much as four inches.
