Report: Troops sick in Iraq from contaminated water

(NECN) - Dozens of U.S. troops may have gotten sick from contaminated water at military bases in Iraq.

According to an internal Pentagon report, the soldiers got skin infections and diarrhea.

Apparently, the contaminated water was supplied by the military and a contractor.

Senator Byron Dorgan calls it "outrageous" that military contractor KBR and the military denied there was a problem with water supplied in Iraq to U.S. troops.

Byron cites a report by the Pentagon's inspector general that says soldiers got sick after using discolored, smelly water for personal hygiene and laundry at five U.S. military sites in Iraq.

Sen. Dorgan says he is going to call for hearings into the matter.
