(NECN/WZZM) - A portion of U.S. 131 closed for several hours Monday morning because of a rollover crash involving a semi-truck.
Authorities say the semi rolled onto its side, forcing the closure from M-89 to 106th Avenue.
They also advise drivers to try to avoid I-196 in the Ganges Township area, where many drivers are sliding off because of ice.
The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning which is in effect until 1:00am Tuesday for Allegan and Van Buren Counties. A Lake Effect Snow Advisory is in effect for Kalamazoo, Mason, Muskegon, Oceana, and Ottawa Counties.
Three to five inches of snow will fall across Allegan, Van Buren and Kalamazoo counties. Visibilities will fall to a half mile at times, especially this afternoon. Roadways, especially secondary roads and bridges will become very slick.
Lake effect snow showers typically align themselves in bands and will likely be intense enough to drop several inches in localized areas.
Snow is piled as much as 2 feet deep in parts of the Great Lakes region.
