(NECN: Daisetta, Texas) - There's not much to do but pull up lawn chairs and watch.
A giant sinkhole that has swallowed oilfield equipment, cars and telephone poles may not be done eating yet.
Authorities in Daisetta say the hole grew Wednesday night, and is now more than 600 yards across and as much as 250 feet deep.
Investigators are checking pipelines and monitoring air and water quality, but so far no pollution has been detected. The cause of the sinkhole isn't known, but some say the oil town's history might be to blame. Daisetta sits on a salt dome. The domes are one of the most common traps for oil, but officials believe it may have collapsed.
