(NECN) - There is reportedly a jailhouse confession from the father of five-year-old Giovanni Gonzalez, from Lynn, Massachusetts.

In an interview with the Boston Globe. Ernesto Gonzalez confessed to stabbing his son to death and dismembering the body in the bathtub of his Lynn apartment.

According to the Globe, Gonzalez then placed his son's body parts into grocery bags and discarded them in trash bins around the city of Lynn. Young Giovanni disappeared in August.

Mother said she dropped the boy off for a visit with his father, but when she went to pick him up, the boy wasn't there.

The Essex County District Attorney tells NECN that the investigation is ongoing, and that the alleged statement of the defendant will be reviewed whether it is truthful or not.

A call to Ernesto's attorney has not been returned.
