| January 14, 2009 Lt. Kelley's second reading: 'Death no longer has power over him'
|
(NECN) - At the funeral service for fallen Boston Firefighter Lieutenant Kevin Kelley, 52, family, friends and fellow firefighters gathered to remember a hero of the profession.
The service was held at St. Ann Church in Quincy, Massachusetts. Thousands lined Hancock Street as the procession made its way to the church, ending with his casket and helmet being brought into the church.
The second reading was delivered by Lt. Kelley's nephew Chris Paulli, and was a reading from the Letter St. Paul to the Romans 6:3-4, 8-9. It reads as follows:
Brothers and sisters:
Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus
were baptized into his death?
We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death,
so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead
by the glory of the Father,
we too might live in newness of life.
If, then, we have died with Christ,
we believe that we shall also live with him.
We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more;
death no longer has power over him.
