| May 8, 2009 N. Atlantic Right Whale baby boom

(NECN: John Moroney, Boston, Mass.) - For decades, North Atlantic Right Whales have remained among the most endangered whales in the world.
Now, scientists from the New England Aquarium have been studying the whales closely and are thrilled to discover what is being called a baby boom.
In this record years, 39 calves were born to the population. With less than 400 North Atlantic Right Whales in the world, the birth of these 39 off the coast of Georgia and Florida is important news.
Eight of the mother whales were first time mothers, and both the mothers and offspring appear to be healthy, meaning that there is a good supply of food.
NECN's John Moroney reports.
