| May 10, 2009 On Mother's Day, a call for peace
|
(NECN: Kristen Caira, Dorchester, Mass.) - Mother's Day can be a difficult one for women who have lost a child to violence, but instead of staying home, many of them came together in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood to walk for peace.
One such mother was Keeshawn Brown, whose son David was shot outside his high school.
"Everybody says, 'Oh, it's been 17 months, your son's been dead'. That don't mean nothing -- I'm going to grieve until the day I die."
On Mother's Day, mothers like Brown took back the streets -- literally. They called for an end to the shootings and stabbing which have robbed the community of their youths.
The money raised from this event goes toward the Lewis D. Brown Peace Institute, which organized the walk. Money raised from the walk will be used to counsel families who have been victimized by violence.
