| July 15, 2009 Elderly driver speaks out after hitting two children
|
(NECN: Greg Wayland, Medfield, Mass.) - Two kids were struck in a crosswalk this afternoon in Medfield, Massachusetts. The person behind the wheel: an 83-year-old woman. It is the latest accident in a string of elderly crashes.
Fortunately, the injuries do not seem serious, but it is always troubling when an infant is involved. And, this was the rare instance where we were actually able to talk with the driver and get her side of the story.
Anne Johnson went from the peaceful sanctuary of a church to the heart of a controversy.
"It's upsetting. I mean -- very, very upsetting."
It happened on Spring Street, which is also busy Route 27.
Johnson was exiting the Catholic church parking lot after a Mass at St. Edward's Church. She goes to Mass pretty much every morning.
Police have yet to file any charges, but the chief says Johnson couldn't have been going fast. Police towed away her car as part of the investigation.
Johnson says she may skip morning Mass for a while.
