| October 8, 2009 Holy Cross organist to compete on world stage

(NECN: Katie Daly, Worcester, Mass.) - If you stop by the chapel on the campus of Holy Cross, chances are you'll find Jacob Street.
The 21-year-old organist spends hours a day filling the chapel with his music.
Jacob has been playing the organ since he was 11 years old. His natural talent combined with formal instruction earned him a full tuition scholarship to Holy Cross. Now in his senior year, Jacob will have the chance to perform on the world stage.
He was one of 18 organists worldwide and one of just two Americans chosen to take part in the Andre Marshal international organ competition. The prestigious competition takes place in France at the end of the month and will be judge by top organists from a variety of countries.
The preparation for the competition started years ago. Jacob says he will take all the skills he's learned since he was a child and play his very best.
Jacob practices at least four hours a day in the chapel and his music usually goes unheard. But on Sundays he doesn't miss the chance to show off his talent when he performs at mass. Setting aside time to fine-tune his performance is often difficult being a full time student
While there will be hours and hours of practice before the competition, Jacob feels ready now. He is eager to represent his school and country.
