(NECN: Alysha Palumbo, N. Attleboro, Mass.) - A final farewell to a fallen hero. A funeral for Marine Captain Kyle Van De Giesen was held today in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. He was killed last week in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.
A service was held this morning at St. Mary's Church in North Attleboro, followed by a procession through town and a burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
A candlelight vigil for Van De Giesen was held last night at the
football field where the former quarterback led the local high
school football team to many victories.
Van De Giesen died October 26 in a helicopter crash in
Afghanistan. He leaves behind his pregnant wife and an 18-month-old
daughter.
