| November 7, 2009 Homeless vets receive assistance

(NECN/WMTW: Augusta, Maine) - Homeless veterans received some assistance on Saturday at the Togus VA Medical Center.
The center hosted its 12th annual Homeless Veterans Stand Down event, in which around 60 homeless vets were bused to the center. They were treated to hair cuts and massages.
They were also given medical exams and information about employment and how to apply for food stamps.
"Today this goal is to take a day off from a hard life for homeless whether you're in a shelter, a tent or in your car and to connect with resources to changes you life," Susie Whittington said. "That's the goal, come in take a day off put your feet up get some resources and if your are ready to change your life, than we're going to help you do that."
The center said there are almost 500 homeless veterans across the state.
