(NECN) - Boston police say they have arrested two teenagers in the January 2007 murder of 13-year-old Luis Gerena in Jamaica Plain. The teenager died near the Jackson Square T stop.
Police say Nurudeen Alabi, 19, of Roxbury and Darrell Rodrigues, 17, of Roxbury will be arraigned tomorrow on murder and firearms charges in the case.
Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis stated, “I commend our homicide detectives and the prosecutors at the District Attorney’s office for their relentless pursuit of justice for Luis. Today my thoughts are with his family and loved ones. I hope this news brings some small sense of peace as they continue to cope with their sad loss.”
Investigators say witness cooperation played a critical role in identifying the two suspects. "These arrests come after more than a year of patient and painstaking investigation," Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said. "Police and prosecutors worked hand in hand to identify these assailants. While our work is not yet done, we look forward to speaking in court for a child lost senselessly to violence."
Gerena died on January 12, 2007, on Parker Street near the Jackson Square T station. Investigators later determined that he was shot on Horan Way but fled toward the MBTA stop.
