(NECN: Boston, Mass.) - The debate over whether to bring three casinos to Massachusetts opened up to the public today.
Governor Deval Patrick says he has "no illusions" about the prospects for his casino gambling bill, conceding that the plan faces likely defeat in the House. However, he's still urging lawmakers to hold a full and open debate on the bill.
Patrick says the plan to license three resort-style casinos in Massachusetts would generate tens of thousands of jobs.
If the committee releases the bill with a recommendation that lawmakers reject it, it could come up for a vote as early as Thursday. House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi has pressed lawmakers to kill the bill, saying casinos would "absolutely cause human damage on a grand scale."
NECN reporter Brad Puffer has more on the turnout.
