(NECN: Brad Puffer, Attleboro, Mass.) - One person is hospitalized with chemical burns and 19 others are being evaluated at hospitals after a chemical accident at Stern-Leach Company in Attleboro, Massachusetts.
Officials say employees at the company caused the minor explosion this morning when they tried to mix sodium cyanide and hydrogen peroxide solutions under a fume hood.
The company makes gold and silver alloys and the chemical mixture is used to clean jewelry.
200 people evacuated the building shortly after the explosion and one worker was taken to a hospital in Providence, Rhode Island for treatment of burns.
