(NECN: Brockton, Mass.) - An elderly woman heads to court Thursday, charged in connection with a deadly crash at Brockton hospital. It all comes as Massachusetts lawmakers consider whether or not to require road tests for elderly drivers.
76-year-old Jane Berghold's lawyer says she is in a very serious state of depression and doesn't think she will be doing any jail time. The defense is hoping for a swift resolution.
The Rockland, Massachusetts woman faces up to two-and-a-half years in prison on two counts of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation. Berghold is charged with crashing her car through the front door of Brockton hospital last October, killing a doctor, and secretary. Two others were injured.
