PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Tornado warnings throughout parts of
Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts have been allowed to
expire.
The National Weather Service says trained weather spotters saw
funnel clouds above waters off Barrington and over East Providence
Wednesday around 4 p.m. William Babcock, a weather service
meteorologist, says they have no reports that the clouds touched
down on land.
There are reports of trees down in Barrington and neighboring
Bristol, but police there say they have no reports that tornadoes
hit those towns.
National Grid spokesman David Graves says about 8,900 customers
were out in Rhode Island around 5 p.m., and fewer than 1,000 had
lost service in Massachusetts.
The weather service warns that torrential rain and lightning is
expected to continue Wednesday.
