(NECN: Lawrence, Mass.) - Hazmat crews are on the scene of a freight car derailment in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The derailment involves just a few cars, but has forced the closure of Andover Street between Routes 28 and 114. (South Broadway and Parker St.)
One of the cars is apparently leaking some of its cargo of sodium chlorate. No injuries are reported.
The MBTA is operating buses to replace Commuter Rail service between Andover and Lawrence Stations. Train service is available between Lawrence and Haverhill Stations.
Displaced residents are being offered shelter at South Lawrence East Middle School.
