Increased security screenings at MBTA stations

(Latoyia Edwards, NECN: Boston, Mass.) - MBTA travelers will face increased security at some train stations Thursday morning. It's part of a drill to make sure officers are ready for a security threat.

Federal officials will be on hand Thursday to conduct random screenings of passengers' bags. These screenings involve both a machine that the bags pass through, and a swab screening that would detect the presence of explosives.

Authorities say the process takes about seven seconds, unless there is a problem discovered.

Screenings of this kind are scheduled to take place at least two to three times a week in the future, however Federal authorities will be only be in place for the preliminary screenings.

NECN's Latoyia Edwards has more.
