Local teen wins award for video with message

(Katie Daly, NECN: Worcester, Mass.) – A Worcester teenager has won a big competition. She made a video that is going to be shown nationwide, and it has a life saving message.

Script:

They're trying to send a strong message - dance....don’t chance.

Its part of a statewide video contest aimed at getting students to think about the dangers of drinking and driving during prom season. On Thursday, Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School Senior, Jamie Cloutier's video, stood out among the rest. Her winning entry will be played on various media outlets nationwide.

For students at Bay Path, images like this hit close to home. This year, the school lost two seniors in car crashes. 17-year-old Jeffrey O'Brien was killed when the SUV he was a passenger in rolled over. He was not wearing a seat belt. And 17-year-old Amanda Martin drove her car into a tree while sending a text message.

Juniors Krista Brunner and Morgan Norby also produced a video. They made it in honor of their fallen classmates.

For principal Clifford Cloutier, the pain of losing 2 students lingers. But ending the school year with messages like the one from Jamie's winning video gives him hope.
