| November 11, 2008 Menino launches the "Million dollar miracle"

(Stephen Iandoli, NECN: Boston, MA) - In Boston there is a new push to keep kids across Boston safe. Mayor Tom Menino launched the Community Learning Initiative.
It was less than a year ago that the mayor announced plans for the initiative, and officially put it into effect Monday night. The program aimed at offering the city's youth extracurricular activities and programs, also comes at a time when the Boston Police Department is dealing with one of the more violent weekends of 2008.
The cost of the new initiative is estimated at one million dollars. That will go towards jobs and programs created. Back in January at the annual State of the City address, Menino called this the "million dollar miracle".
