On February 9th, 2000, a massive fire engulfed an office building on Route 9 in Newton, Massachusetts.
It is a fire that never should have raged out of control, and never should have claimed lives.
"It is very hard for me to accept the fact that five people died, midday, a sunny afternoon, in a community that has a very good fire department with a robust mutual aid system,” said Massachusetts State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan.
And to this day, no one has been charged in connection with the blaze.
In Chapter 1 of the NECN documentary, “The Forgotten Fire,” Leslie Gaydos sets out the timeline of the fire at 200 Boylston St. that left five people dead.
