Nantucket Police investigate apparent teen suicide

(NECN) - Police are reporting that a Nantucket High School graduate died this week from an apparent suicide in the forest off Rugged Road.

Nantucket Police were told on Friday night at 11 PM that Benjamin Rives had not been seen or heard from since 4 PM Thursday after he left his home on York Street.

Family members, friends and local police began a search that led them to Rives body at 5:15 AM on Saturday.

Police are investigating the death but the circumstance appear to be consistent with a suicide.

Rives' death brings to four the number of high school student deaths reported on the island as suicides or apparent suicides in the past 18 months: a 15-year-old freshman boy died in February 2007, a 17-year-old senior girl died in October 2007, and a 16-year-old junior boy died in January.

Parts of this report came directly from the Cape Cod Times.
